Telescope Status
This 0.6m (24 inch) Perkin-Elmer telescope is located atop the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center building in Chapel Hill, NC. While Chapel Hill skies are certainly not as dark and stable as the skies we find in Chile or Arizona, it is often clear enough for graduate and undergraduate students to obtain useful data and experience which prepares them to use research instruments at national observatories. Even with the many street and athletic field lights brightening the Chapel Hill sky, we are able to detect faint objects like distant galaxies or quasars.
